Guides

Accounts, roles and retention

Everyone signs in with their own account, and each account has one role. An admin manages accounts, storage and retention in Settings.

In this guide

  1. The four roles
  2. Add a person
  3. Where footage is stored
  4. How long footage is kept
  5. What uploads to MAW's cloud

The four roles

MAW Live roles
RoleCan
AdminEverything, including accounts, the license, storage, retention and system settings
OperatorReplay, clips, scenes, overlays and outputs
RefereeReferee View, the scoreboard and the clock, on the courts assigned to them only
ViewerWatch

Roles are enforced by MAW Live itself, not just hidden in the page. A Facility plan has unlimited sign-ins; a Studio has three.

Add a person

  1. Settings, "Users", "+ Add User".
  2. Enter their name and username, a temporary password and their role.
  3. For a referee, tick the courts they may act on, and set an end date if the access is for one event. To change an existing referee's courts, use "Scope".

Passwords. At least 15 characters, with common and leaked passwords refused. An admin's "Reset password" sets a temporary password, and the person must choose their own at their next sign-in ("Choose a new password").

Where footage is stored

On your own PC, MAW Live uses five folders, set in Settings, "Storage Paths": replay chunks, clips, an archive (optional), the upload queue and logs. Change them with "Save storage folders"; the change applies the next time MAW Live starts.

How long footage is kept

Retention is under Settings, "Storage Paths", "Retention".

  • By default, clips, recordings and imports are removed 30 days after they were made. Set a different period for each kind.
  • Takes, the sealed copies of a replay window that a rewind or "Full replay" makes, are kept 48 hours.
  • A removed file goes to a bin for 48 hours, where an operator or admin can "Restore" it. An admin can "Purge" it for good.
  • A clip marked "Keep" is never removed.
  • Tagged footage is never removed before it has uploaded. "Warn about footage not uploaded after (days)" (3 by default) tells you when uploads are stuck.
  • With an Archive folder set, an archive age moves older footage there first.
  • "Clean up early when space is low" keeps a free-space floor on the disk, and "Preview" shows what the next clean-up would remove. Save with "Save retention settings".

What uploads to MAW's cloud

Nothing uploads unless a player is tagged on it, and each upload counts against the tagged players' own storage, never your venue's. A tagged clip uploads unless you switch clip uploads off. Recordings and takes upload only if you turn that on. If a player's storage is full, the clip waits on your PC and uploads once they have room, while you still have it. Uploads carry no sound until an admin turns sound on in Settings, after the warnings; before you do, post signs at the courts saying sound is recorded. Uploaded footage is kept in MAW's cloud for 60 days from upload, or 12 months for a Pro Plus player's clips.
